On October 8, parliament elected Dita Remberga—formerly Head of the NEPLP Monitoring Department—as the fifth member of the Council, restoring the Council to its full composition.
Dita Remberga has worked at the NEPLP for nine years. She initially served as a legal counsel and senior expert, and has held the position as the Head of the Monitoring Department since 2019.
The Council members warmly welcome Dita Remberga to the team. Aurēlija Ieva Druviete, Chair of NEPLP, notes that “her extensive experience in NEPLP operations, media monitoring, the drafting of proposals for legislative amendments, and representing the NEPLP in international working groups, meetings, courts, and international organisations provides an invaluable foundation for her to operate successfully at the Council level from day one and to continue fulfilling the NEPLP’s mission as an independent media regulator."
Since June, NEPLP has been operating with a reduced team of four members after Ivars Āboliņš voluntarily stepped down as Chair of the Council. Consequently, on August 20, the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia (parliament) announced a call for applications to fill the vacant position.
