Radio SWH TV, operated by AS Radio SWH, and ReTV, operated by SIA Re MEDIA, have won a competition for available slots on Latvia’s free-to-air terrestrial television network. The competition for commercial television channels was organised by the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP).
Under the competition requirements, AS Radio SWH’s television channel Radio SWH TV will provide informative and entertaining content, while SIA Re MEDIA’s channel ReTV will offer content aimed at strengthening Latvia’s cultural space and national identity. The public television channels LTV1 and LTV7 will also be available on free-to-air terrestrial television from 1 January to 31 December 2027.
“The broadcasters whose commercial television channels have been selected as winners of the competition will therefore continue broadcasting on free-to-air terrestrial television at least until the end of 2027. This will ensure that viewers have access to diverse, reliable content produced in Latvia, which is particularly important for safeguarding the information space,” said Ieva Kalderauska, Deputy Chair of the National Electronic Mass Media Council.
Programmes will be available on free-to-air terrestrial television across almost all of Latvia, as well as on pay-TV platforms and online, including live streams and recordings on the channels’ own websites.
NEPLP funds free-to-air terrestrial broadcasting to ensure that television services featuring locally produced content are available throughout Latvia, including to people who cannot afford pay-TV services.
