On 8 October, the Saeima elected Dita Remberga, the Head of the NEPLP Monitoring Department, as the fifth member of the Council, enabling it to operate with its full complement of members.
Dita Remberga has worked at the NEPLP for nine years. She initially served as a legal adviser and senior expert and, since 2019, has headed the Monitoring Department.
Aurēlija Ieva Druviete, Chair of the Council, warmly welcomes Dita to the Council and notes: “Her extensive experience at the NEPLP, including in media monitoring, preparing proposals for legislative amendments, and representing the NEPLP in international working groups and meetings, before the courts and within international organisations, provides an invaluable foundation for her to contribute effectively at Council level from day one and to continue advancing the NEPLP’s mission as an independent media regulator.”
Since June, the NEPLP has operated with only four of its five members after Ivars Āboliņš stepped down as Chair of the Council. Consequently, on 20 August, the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia invited applications for the vacant position.
