The National Electronic Mass Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP) invites you to attend the presentation of the study “Media Literacy among the Latvian Population”, which will take place on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the combined Noir and Vero conference rooms at the Pullman Riga Old Town hotel, 24 Jēkaba Street, Riga. The event will be in Latvian.

Please confirm your in-person attendance by Monday, 26 October 2026 (inclusive), by completing the registration form: https://forms.gle/pPTDkkBL3tysJUH29.

The first part of the event will open with remarks by the Chair of NEPLP, Dr sc. comm. Aurēlija Ieva Druviete. Media literacy expert and Associate Professor at the University of Latvia’s Department of Communication and Information, Dr sc. comm. Klinta Ločmele, will then present the study and its key findings.

The second part of the event will feature a round-table discussion, “Media Literacy in Latvia: From Findings to Joint Action”, examining the study results, the current situation, and the steps needed to advance media literacy in Latvia.

“What is the level of media literacy among Latvia’s population? Is interest in high-quality news and analytical content growing? How are we using the opportunities created by artificial intelligence tools? How prepared are we to become responsible content creators in the digital environment? This year’s media literacy study will answer these and many other questions. Now in its third year, the study assesses society’s ability to navigate today’s information environment. Media literacy is one of the key foundations of societal resilience and national security. The findings therefore matter to everyone who cares about the future of a democratic and secure Latvia,” says NEPLP Chair Aurēlija Ieva Druviete.

After the event, participants are invited to continue the conversation over coffee and discuss current media literacy issues in an informal setting.

The study presentation will take place during UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week, held annually from 24 to 31 October. This year’s theme is “We All Play a Part: Media and Information Literacy for the People”.

Please feel free to share information about the study presentation with your colleagues and partners.

The event will be photographed and recorded for NEPLP’s public communication purposes. It will also be livestreamed on the NEPLP website and at Facebook.com/NEPLP.
